Recalled to Life

Five Mile Beach, February 1992

Five Mile Beach, December 2016

I returned to Five Mile Beach campsite after spending a couple of hours enjoying the solitude of Johnny Souey. The other walkers had left, so I had the place to myself and in fact didn’t see another person until I returned to my car the next day.

Back at Five Mile Beach, I spent the afternoon watching the local bird life following their simple routines. I listened to some music too – old tunes to make me feel melancholy but also to remind me of who I am – Wolfstone’s Braes of Sutherland and The Sea King, which I so associate with Dad, then some traditional Breton songs from Tri Yann, and some Breton rap from Manau, La Tribu de DanaMais Qui est la Balette.

Early to bed at 8:30pm, a good sleep, a simple breakfast and away at 8:30am. Another uneventful walk back to the car, my feet feeling fine – did the walk 30 minutes quicker than on the way in. A leisurely drive home.

A soul restored.
